Fine Tuning Your Photographs

Hot on the heals of the terrific Terry Donnelly we have "Fine Tune Your Photographs" with Brian Law CPAGB ARPS this Friday 20th October. You never stop learning photography and I've picked up valuable tips from a number of our guest speakers over the years which has helped me to improve my photography. Whether we're a novice or an advanced photographer, Brian promises to pass on something to help us all to produce better images.

This Friday is also the hand-in for the Pictorial competition.

In the pursuit of knowledge, Newton Village Hall, Grange Cross Lane, West Kirby will be opening it's doors from 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start and a 10pm finish. Our future program of talks and events is on our Hoylake Photographic Society website or catch up on our Facebook page.

Open / Altered Reality Competition Results

Last Friday 6th October, our guest Doug Bennison LRPS, CPAGB judged our first monthly competition of the season with the theme "Open / Altered Reality"

The format for this competition was for A4 Unmounted Prints and Digital Projected Images. This format has proved very popular in the past with approximately 60-70 A4 prints entered by our members but with six unmounted A4 prints allowed from each member the number of entries were surprisingly low this year. Nevertheless, the image quality seen in the awarded prints were as high as in previous years. This year we had digital copies of the prints projected to the audience during the judging which proved a success.

A4 Unmounted Prints

This print format was included in the season's program to encourage our less experienced and newer members to take part in the monthly competitions and it proved successful with Bernie Smith taking 1st and 3rd places in the Open section and 1st in the Altered Reality competition. Barry Quatermass took 2nd place in the Open section. Congratulations Bernie.

1st Open "Richmond Capital Sunset" - Bernie Smith
1st Altered Reality ""Within You, Without You" - Bernie Smith

Digital Projected Images

In a complete turnaround from the A4 Unmounted Prints competition, the awards in the Digital Projected Images cometition was dominated by the clubs experienced photographers with Barry Quatermass taking 1st place, Margaret Sixsmith taking 2nd place and husband John Sixsmith coming 3rd. The top place in the Altered Reality competition went to Paul Anderson.

1st Open "Walking on Water" - Barry Quatermass
1st Altered Reality "Serene" - Paul Anderson

Overall the most successful photographers in our first competition of the season were undoubtedly Bernie Smith and Barry Quatermass. Well done both of you and commiserations to those members whose images didn't catch the judges eye on this occasion. The full list of award winners is below.
